GRP / aluminium smooth sides
From the 2013 model year, our vehicles have been produced with GRP roofs as standard. From model year 2009, a GRP roof was configurable as optional equipment. Until this period, aluminium smooth sides were used.
Our solution for damage caused by weathering is called glass fibre reinforced plastic, or GRP for short. GRP is an extremely robust and resistant fibre-plastic composite made of polyester resin and glass fibres. The advantages of the material lie in its high impact resistance, even when subjected to strong force. A GRP structure refers to the outer material of the sandwich panels for caravans/motorhomes (glass fibre reinforced plastic) for walls, floor and roof.
Roof loads
In general, the roofs of our vehicles are accessible to a limited extent. The maximum permissible roof load is 100 kg. This means that when walking on the roof, care must be taken to avoid point loads. This could lead to dents on the roof. We therefore recommend a large-area underlay (e.g. Polystyrene sheet) so that the weight is distributed over a large area. To avoid scratches, the roof can also be protected by a cover.
The roof should therefore be cleared of snow regularly in appropriate weather conditions. Last but not least, defrosting large amounts of snow creates a detrimental, permanent water pressure on the roof openings, which favours the development of leaks. Alternatively, the roof can also be braced (sprayed) in unsupported areas. Please avoid point loading in the ceiling and floor area.
