It is well known that plastic parts age, lose their elasticity and become brittle. Shower trays in particular, which are installed as waterproof floors in most caravan bathrooms and are constantly trodden on, break or crack over time. This is problematic for two reasons: Firstly, you can injure yourself on the sharp edges, and secondly, even small amounts of water are enough to cause even more expensive damage to the substrate.
This scenario is not that rare. This is due to the material and design of the shower trays used by caravan manufacturers. These are thermoformed parts made of polystyrene. During production, the four-millimetre-thick plastic sheets are heated and pulled into shape. The material is thinned out particularly in the areas where it is deformed the most. These are usually the breakage points of the showers later on. This affects older and younger caravans. The manufacturer will cover the costs for the first two years after purchase.
Problem: To remove the shower tray, it is usually necessary to dismantle all the other nested plastic bathroom elements. Because this takes a long time, it often adds up to several hundred Euros. To make matters worse, shower trays for older caravans are often no longer available at all.
