For four-wheel drive vehicles, exceptions may apply, such as an additional sign "4×4 excluded". Violations are punishable by a fine.

Snow chains in Italy:
In Italy snow chains may be made compulsory by means of special signage if necessary. The permissible maximum speed is then 50 km/h. Here, too, violations are punished with fines. So be sure to take snow chains for your motorhome and caravan if Italy is a travel and transit destination.
